Over the years, I've been know to be somewhat of a fast food junkie, or better yet, connoisseur. As bizarre as my eating habits have seemed to most, those who have chosen to sample my recommendations have not been disappointed. Therefore, I'm going to start ranking which place has the best of each. It would be quite unfair to compare true fast foot joints, like McDonald's, Burger King, etc. to the restaurant chains, like Outback, Chili's, and so on, so I may list those separately. Today, I'm starting small with fries (pun always intended!). After all, I have been known to go to one drive through for burgers then to another for fries, since the first one's sucked.
1. McDonald's - quite simply the best
2. Nathan's - I've developed a recent fondness
3. White Castle - noticing the crinkle cut theme?
The worst:
KFC - those wedge things are awful
Burger King - theirs was right up there with McDonald's, until they coated them
Wendy's - What's with the natural cut stuff? I love sea salt, but what's underneath is terrible.
Before the changes, both would have made the list.
Speaking of changes to fries, why have so many places started coating them? Does anyone know? In an time when most people are more educated as far as, what's good for you and what's not, why would they add extra coating to a fried food? I'm sure the coating is not healthier or less calories, and it sure doesn't taste better. Not to me, anyway.
The funny part of this whole thing, is that I barely eat fast food, lately. Nevertheless, my fond memories are enough to keep posting. I haven't given it up completely, but a couple times of week has changed to once or twice a month.
More to come
Agree...Mc D's Fries are the best!! And, always loved White Castle's as well...Nathans.. I will now have to try! :)
ReplyDeleteHere I have to disagree with you, I CAN'T stand MC'ds fries. For fast food places, I like BK's the best. As far as health goes, by the time I'm eating fries how healthy the batter is really isn't a consideration ;) I guess it's just a matter of preference cause I actually like wendy's too...MC D's are generally soggy and flimsy, yuck.
